The State Saxon Ministry of Science, Culture and Tourism (SMWK) and the Ministry of Social Affairs and Social Cohesion (SMS) have announced in a press release that all students will be offered vaccinations before the start of the winter semester 2021/22, so that the region’s higher education institutions can then open and operate as fully as possible. Special programmes for this group of people are being planned in vaccination centres, as is the targeted deployment of mobile vaccination teams on site at universities.

The German Red Cross and the higher education institutions will coordinate vaccination services. “Offering vaccinations on university campuses will make the possibility of high levels of in-person teaching more realistic, and also facilitate internships or study abroad. Furthermore, vaccination opportunities for students are also important in view of the financial challenges that many face,” said the Chair of the State Rectors’ Conference, Professor Klaus-Dieter Barbknecht.
