Frequently asked questions about the doctoral list

  • An enrollment on the doctoral list is not obligatory according to the current doctoral regulations of the Faculty of Mathematics and Computer Science, see also Art. 4 Doctoral Regulations, but it is highly recommended. By registering on the list of doctoral candidates, you can apply for enrollment at the University of Leipzig and thus obtain the right to vote for your representative, the PhD Council.

 

  • For enrollment on the doctoral list, please send the completed "Application for Enrollment on the Doctoral List" in original to the Dean's Office.

  • Please note that the application needs the support of your supervisor. If the supervisor is not a professor of the faculty or if you do not have a supervisor, you need a professor of the faculty to support your application.

  • The entry in the list of doctoral candidates expires upon completion or termination of the doctoral process, but no later than 5 years after entry in the list.

  • An extension of one year is possible upon request and will be decided by the corresponding doctoral committee.

     

Frequently asked questions about the application for the doctoral procedure

To apply for a doctoral procedure, please submit an informal application for a doctoral degree and enclose the documents required by the doctoral degree regulations according to § 7. We kindly ask you to provide these documents in original and digitally via a download link.

  • Three bound copies of the dissertation, one copy in electronic form (preferably in pdf format) as well as 30 copies of the abstract of maximum four pages. If additional copies of the dissertation are required in the course of the doctoral procedure, they must be submitted by the applicant. We kindly ask that only one copy of the abstract be submitted for the time being, as it has not yet been determined whether the defense will take place in attendance. The printed summaries are to be submitted later in case of a presence defense.
  • Tabular curriculum vitae with description of the scientific career and picture of yourself;
  • List of scientific publications and lectures;
  • Officially certified copies of the documentary evidence of the fulfillment of the prerequisites according to § 5 for admission to a doctoral procedure;
  • Declarations of the applicant on the acceptance of the doctoral regulations, on the fact that the submitted work in the same or similar form has not been submitted to another examination authority for the purpose of a doctorate or another examination procedure; on whether and, if so, where, when and with which subject previous unsuccessful attempts at a doctorate have taken place.
  • If applicable, endorsement of the application by a professor of the Faculty of Mathematics and Computer Science (§ 5 para. 1 item 4);
  • If applicable, approval of the application for admission in a language other than German or English.
  • If it is a binational doctorate, the framework agreement with the foreign university.
  • Without any claim to consideration, at least four reviewers should be proposed. (We recommend that you obtain prior consent for the reviewer proposals in order to avoid a delay in the procedure due to reappointment.)
